About Kit
Kit Bednar began studying piano at the age of 6. She later studied guitar, fiddle, ukulele, and a variety of other instruments, accompanying vocalists and forming ensembles in her teens.
She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Speech Pathology from Old Dominion University and a Masters of Education from Antioch University New England. She has maintained her lifelong study of music through coursework at Keene State College, private study, and Suzuki training. Kit has also studied Brain Integration Therapy, a method of optimizing learning through brain patterning and exercise. She expertly weaves Suzuki Talent Education, motivation-know-how, and parent communication to facilitate the best outcome for all of her students.
Experience
In addition to her 45-year career in private music teaching, Kit is a lifelong composer and arranger of vocal and instrument ensembles. Her passion is to impart the love of playing a musical instrument into the hearts of all and to support newly formed family ensembles while sharing her knowledge of music theory and ear training. Kit serves as accompanist for music events, speaks on the Benefits of Early Music Study and How to Succeed at Practicing, and remains active in local community charities. She is currently writing a music series for non-readers based on a unique system of notation she developed while working with musicians with special needs.
Education
Kit is well acquainted with Suzuki Talent Education, having been among one of the first teachers in this country to promote the Japan-born method when it first came to the United States in the early ’70s. She has studied with Elan Sikroff, Gustave Ferri, and Robert Fraley. Kit currently holds a position as Music and Drama teacher at Crotched Mountain School in Greenfield, NH, and teaches privately at her studio, TheMusicKit, in Keene, NH.
